Voluma Newport Beach

Beach Voluma injectionsJuvederm Voluma XC, commonly shortened to just “Voluma,” is an injectable dermal filler that is FDA-approved for volume correction of the cheeks. At The Ocean Clinic Dermatology & Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, Voluma therapy is administered by double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. David R. Reinstadler.

How Does Voluma Work?

Voluma is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the skin that attracts and retains moisture. When injected into the mid-face area, it absorbs nearby water molecules to replenish lost volume and enhance the cheeks’ natural structure. HA is gradually dissolved by the body, making Voluma results temporary.

How is Voluma Different From Other Types of Juvederm?

We offer two kinds of Juvederm products to meet different patient needs. Our other version of Juvederm is ideal for moderate wrinkles and lines around the nose and mouth. However, the Voluma formula is cross-linked, giving it the thicker consistency necessary for adding fullness and lift to “hollowed” cheeks.

Is Voluma Right for Me?

An ideal candidate for Voluma is someone who is experiencing age-related volume loss in the mid-face, leading to a flattened or sagging appearance. It can be an excellent alternative to cheek augmentation plastic surgery for patients looking for more subtle enhancements and future flexibility.

What Happens During a Voluma Session?

If approved for Voluma, your session will take place in our Orange County office. We may apply a topical anesthetic if desired, but Juvederm formulas already contain lidocaine to ensure maximum patient comfort.

Once you’re ready, the Voluma gel is strategically injected into specific areas of the cheeks as per your desired results. We may then briefly massage the area to ensure even distribution. The entire procedure typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, with immediate improvements in facial volume and contours visible right after the session.

After Your Voluma Appointment

After a Voluma session, patients can expect minimal downtime, allowing them to return to most normal activities immediately. Some individuals might experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection sites, but these are typically minor and subside within a few hours to a couple of days. During this very brief recovery period, Dr. Reinstadler will likely recommend avoiding intense exercise to allow the filler to settle correctly.

While patients can usually have some improvements right away, it can take up to a week to see the full effects. The results from Voluma are long-lasting, with most patients enjoying enhanced facial volume and contours for about two years before needing touch-up treatments.

How Much Does a Voluma Treatment Cost?

The cost of your aesthetic plan will depend on your specific goals. The price of Voluma therapy mainly depends on:

  • The number of injections made
  • The amount of Voluma formula necessary
  • Any cleansing and numbing solutions used
  • If you are also opting for other cosmetic procedures
