Restylane is a hyaluronic acid gel, used as a temporary dermal filler. It is FDA approved for correction of facial wrinkles. The gel is injected into the deeper layers of the skin and helps to smooth out surface irregularities. The most common area for Restylane injection is under the eyes. A new Restylane product was recently introduced, Restylane Silk, which is exclusively indicated for lip augmentation. This product is smoother and provides a softer fill for the lips. You can plan to have the filler in the lips last approximately six months, and the under eye filler to last around nine months.

The risks of all fillers will be discussed prior to the injections, but are commonly limited to injection site redness and bruising. The advantage of these hyaluronic acid fillers is that they can be completely dissolved within 24 hours if desired.
